Georgetown University Student Investment Fund, better known as GUSIF, is a student-run investment fund at Georgetown. As a pre-professional finance organization, GUSIF has a reputation as one of Georgetown's most selective clubs.
History and Mission
GUSIF was established in 1996 by Bryan Giraudo (CAS '97) and Seong Kim (MSB '97)1. Assisted by MSB Professor James Angel, GUSIF initially received $100,000 to invest from the University endowment in March 19972. The club now invests over $1 million on behalf of both the University endowment and the Alumni Association3. GUSIF has both fiduciary and educational responsibilities, aiming to secure a market-beating return on its investments while also providing meaningful financial education for its members4.
Activities
The fund centers its activities around value investing, conducting research to find undervalued investment opportunities5. GUSIF is divided into seven portfolio groups: Financial Institutions, Healthcare, Technology, Media & Telecommunications, Industrials & Renewables, Markets, and Consumer & Retail6. Each industry group works on pitches that are voted on in GUSIF's General Body Meetings7.
GUSIF provides various professional development resources to members. For instance, the club hosts events to help members understand the finance industry's recruiting process8. GUSIF also hosts networking events for members9.
GUSIF requires an application process for interested students, featuring an initial application and two rounds of interviews10. The club does not require prior experience in business or finance and conducts a weekly training program for new analysts11.
