Martin F. Conboy

Martin F. Conboy (L 1898) was the first president of the modern Georgetown University Alumni Association. He was elected at its first meeting in 1940 and held the position until 1944.1 Prior to Conboy's presidency, the Alumni Association had been only loosely and sporadically organized and he helped lead its establishment as a formal organization for alumni.

Born in New York, Conboy returned there after graduation and practiced law in New York City, with an office at 27 Pine Street.6 He lived in East Orange, N.J.7 In 1919 he was a partner at the law firm of Griggs, Baldwin & Baldwin. During World War I, he was Director of the Draft for New York City.8
