Merrick & Morris was a law firm founded by Georgetown alumni Richard Thomas Merrick and Martin F. Morris in Washington, D.C. in 1868. It went on to employ several more Georgetown alumni, including Merrick's son-in-law George Ernest Hamilton. When Hamilton replaced Merrick as partner upon Merrick's death, the firm changed its name to Morris & Hamilton. In 1893 it became Hamilton & Colbert when Morris was appointed as associate judge to the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.1
