Mr. Georgetown Pageant

Mr. Georgetown is an annual male beauty pageant held by the Georgetown Program Board on the Friday of Homecoming Weekend. Seniors representing various clubs compete in several activities including spirit wear, talents, and interviews.

Origins

According to former GPB president Carver Fitzgerald (COL '22), Mr. Georgetown began "...as a satirical commentary on gender norms and expectations"1. First held in 2005, it has become a beloved Georgetown tradition and a staple of Homecoming Weekend2

Event

Mr. Georgetown is held in Gaston Hall on Friday evening during Homecoming Weekend. Tickets for the event are usually in high demand; GPB sold 600 in less than 10 minutes for the 2022 iteration3. Interested clubs can nominate a male senior as their representative for Mr. Georgetown4.

The competition currently opens with a choreographed group dance, followed by individual spirit wear and talent sections before the judges eliminate most of the competitors5. The five remaining contestants are then interviewed by the hosts, after which the judges determine the winner6. Past judges have included previous winners, professors, and other members of the Georgetown community.

While Mr. Georgetown has always stuck to its core essence as a satirical pageant, the event's structure has occasionally changed. The swimsuit round7 that was once a staple of the event has been replaced by spirit wear, where contestants wear outfits representing their clubs. Mr. Georgetown has also adopted themes on occasion; the 2012 event was modeled after the Hunger Games8
