Mrs. M.A. Keating was a switchboard operator at Georgetown University from 1938 to 1959. She was the first female employee of the University.
When hired by Georgetown in 1938, she operated the University's only switchboard, which handled all calls for the campus. By the time she retired in 1959, two additional switchboards had been added and she was chief operator of the switchboard in Ryan Hall.
When she retired, she planned to spend her time visiting the sick.1
