Georgetown University College Republicans

Georgetown University College Republicans is a political organization affiliated with the Republican Party. GUCR describes itself as "the official representative of the Republican Party" on Georgetown's campus and aims to promote Republican values and policies1. GUCR is the largest conservative student organization at Georgetown2.

Activities

GUCR participates in two annual debates with the Georgetown University College Democrats, moderated by Georgetown Bipartisan Coalition3. The club also organizes various speaker events, most notably bringing Eric Trump (MSB '06) and Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk to campus in 20204

Publications

GUCR hosts a podcast on Spotify called "The Elephant in the Room", which launched in April 20225. Previous episode topics include Hawaii politics and a recap of the 2022 midterms6

Notable Alumni

Many Georgetown undergraduate alumni have had distinguished political careers in the Republican Party. Sen. John Barrasso (CAS '74, L' 78) has represented Wyoming in the Senate since 2007, while Senator Lisa Murkowski (CAS '80) has represented Alaska since 2002. After her defeat in the 2010 Republican primary, Murkowski became only the second senator elected via write-in votes7. Mick Mulvaney (SFS '89) led the Office of Management and Budget from 2017-21 during the Trump administration and concurrently served as President Trump's Chief of Staff from 2020-2021. Jeff Colyer (CAS '81) served as Governor of Kansas from 2018-2019.
