Georgetown Collegiate Investors (GCI)

Georgetown Collegiate Investors, better known as GCI, is a student-run investment fund at Georgetown. The club invests student-contributed funds and conducts a training program to admit analysts.

History and Mission

GCI was established in 1994 and incorporated in 19961, when it made its first investments2. GCI was the first student-run investment fund in the US3 and remains the nation's largest student-run fund today. GCI members invest their own money in the fund and cash out upon graduation to ensure that the club maintains student ownership4. The club manages over $160,000 in student-contributed assets5, though the number fluctuates with cash-outs upon graduation6 and market conditions.

Activities

GCI is divided into six sectors: Power & Natural Resources, Consumer & Retail, Economics & Risk, Healthcare, Industrials, and Technology, Media, & Telecom7.

GCI conducts investment research to analyze its portfolio and prospective investments8. The club's research work culminates in its Annual Report9. GCI conducts buy and sell pitches on prospective investments, which are subject to a member vote10

GCI offers two pathways to membership: a training program and an application. The club does not require previous finance experience or knowledge. Instead, it conducts a semester-long training program to teach important finance concepts and admit members11. Interested students can also go through a traditional application process for immediate membership12. Since GCI invests students' money, students who are not analysts can still invest in the fund13.

GCI also operates a podcast and a blog14.
