Frank Baker

Frank Baker (August 22, 1841 – September 30, 1918) was professor of anatomy at the Georgetown Medical School from 1883 to 1918 and also served as Superintendent of the National Zoo.

He was born in Pulaski, NY. At the outset of the Civil War, he enlisted in the 37th New York Volunteers. After the War, he graduated from the Medical Department of Columbian College (later George Washington University) and was awarded a M.A. and a Ph.D. by Georgetown University in 1888 and 1890 respectively. In 1883, he was appointed professor of anatomy at Georgetown Medical School, a position he held for 35 years. 

Between 1890 and 1916, he served as Superintendent of the National Zoological Park in Washington, D.C.1
