Walter R. Abell

Walter R. Abell, C'1869 (1849 – January 3, 1891) was editor of the Baltimore Sun.

The son of Baltimore Sun founder Arunah Shepherdson (A.S.) Abell, he was educated in public schools in Baltimore, at Mount St. Mary's College in Emmitsburg, Maryland, and then at Georgetown College.1 Graduating from Georgetown with a B.A. in 1869, he was also awarded an honorary degree by the University during its Centennial celebrations in 1889.2

He and his brothers, Edwin F. and George W. Abell, inherited control of the Sun on their father's death in 1888.
